Reporting to the Superintendent, this hands-on role plays an essential part in Mainland’s milling and roadbuilding operations. Depending on experience, you may join as a Senior Operator with strong technical expertise in heavy equipment operation, or as a Foreperson leading a crew of approximately 10 employees. Either way, you’ll be responsible for ensuring daily site activities are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards, contributing to the successful delivery of projects that shape the roads and infrastructure of our community.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leading or supporting daily site operations on assigned milling or paving projects
  • Operating milling machines and related heavy equipment safely and efficiently
  • Promoting and maintaining a Safety-First culture, ensuring compliance with Mainland’s Environmental Health and Safety Program and provincial OHS regulations
  • Conducting or participating in daily pre-work safety meetings and hazard assessments
  • Reviewing project plans, drawings, and specifications to plan daily work and production targets
  • Performing daily pre-start inspections, checking fluids and service schedules, and documenting results
  • Assigning tasks, providing technical direction, and monitoring work quality throughout each shift
  • Coordinating equipment, materials, and traffic management on-site
  • Liaising with the Superintendent, customers, and subcontractors to maintain clear communication and resolve issues
  • Tracking daily production, timekeeping, and field logs accurately using B2W Track or similar platforms
  • Cleaning and inspecting equipment daily to ensure reliability and promote a positive public image
  • Supporting hands-on work or manual labour tasks as required to meet production goals
  • Mentoring and training crew members while fostering a respectful, team-oriented work environment
  • Maintaining site tidiness, environmental compliance, and adherence to Mainland’s policies and standards
  • Traveling to various job sites as required and working overtime, nights, or weekends as necessary

More About You

To qualify, you will need a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in roadbuilding, paving, or milling operations, including exposure to heavy equipment operation and/or crew supervision. Leadership experience is an asset but not required; candidates with initiative, a strong safety mindset, and a commitment to quality work will be considered at either the Foreperson or Senior Operator level depending on experience.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and project specifications
  • Strong understanding of grades, drainage, and surface finish quality
  • Proficiency with digital tools and timekeeping systems such as B2W Track
  • Valid BC Driver’s Licence (Code 20 Trailer endorsement preferred) and willingness to travel or work flexible hours, including overtime or weekends
  • Hands-on equipment operation experience (e.g., milling machines, skid steer, or related roadbuilding equipment)
  • Experience working in a unionized environment

As our ideal candidate, you will bring strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to guide, and motivate a crew in a fast-paced environment. You are reliable, safety-focused, and proactive, demonstrating sound judgment and professionalism when representing the company on-site.

This is a great opportunity for a hands-on, experienced roadbuilding professional who takes pride in their work and wants to play a key leadership role in shaping the roads and infrastructure of their community.
